NILS BEN BRAHIM
We are delighted to have realised several projects with Nils Ben Brahim (born 1999; lives and works in Berlin) since 2024.
In his work, Nils Ben Brahim explores the depiction of human interaction. What makes us hurt each other, both physically and mentally, and what connects us? What can help us to understand ourselves better? Nils Ben Brahim's works exert a special allure. At first glance, some of his paintings appear to be an exaggerated representation of digital photos that have been overexposed. In the visual arts, this style is often referred to as hyperrealism. However, on closer inspection, the surface reveals soft, pastose brushstrokes blending bright colours. The artist mixes the egg tempera and oil paints himself. Alongside these hyperrealistic pieces, Brahim also creates more abstract and expressionistic paintings. These different styles enter into a dialogue with each other. The figures that Brahim paints are often friends or people from his immediate surroundings who intrigue him. Also, everyday violence and its profound psychological phenomena, roots and, above all, origins are recurring themes in his paintings.
