Maix Mayer

Maix Mayer lives and works as a media and conceptual artist in Leipzig. After graduating in marine ecology at the University of Rostock, he completed his studies at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig with a diploma in fine arts. At the University of Arts in Poznan, Faculty of New Media, he successfully completed his doctorate on the relationship between media and urbanism.

In his work, Maix Mayer explores different narrative models of fiction and reality. As a matrix that is always recomposed, he uses the interplay of media/arts and architecture. Referring on his scientific education, his arrangements build up a context to perceive time and space and history. Under special regard he deals with the transformations of our society, the given examples based on urban spaces and the related aspect of symbolization of architecture as social utopia.

Maix Mayer's works have been shown in numerous national and international solo and group exhibitions, including at the MocA Sydney, the Geementemuseum The Hague, the Kunstmuseum Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen Magdeburg, the Kunsthalle Rostock, the Martin-Gropius-Bau Berlin and the Museu Brasileiro da Escultura Sao Paulo. Today, Maix Mayer's work can be found in the collections of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney, the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg and the Deutsche Bank Collection Frankfurt/Main, among others.
