True Lab 6

Lisa Mühleisen, born in 1986, studied at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design with Birgit Brenner. Basic to her conceptual drawings on multiplex panels is formalism, which she develops further in her works. Lisa Mühleisen has developed her own concept of form; it involves new combinations of forms, re-formings, and juxtapositions of forms. Things are thereby not what they seem to be, and the mixture of reality and illusion in her optical-illusionary painting raises the question of function and aesthetics. In the EIGEN + ART Lab, she is showing a wall installation in which the forms and titles of the works enter into a dialog. Lisa Mühleisen lives and works in Stuttgart.

True Lab 5

Ann-Kathrin Müller, born in 1988, is a student in the class of Ricarda Roggan at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design. Ann-Kathrin Müller’s medium is photography; the starting point of her work is the narrative potential of the photographic gaze, which uses picture composition and perspective to make statements about what is shown. In the exhibition, works can be seen from her series Vantage Point. The analog black-and-white photographs are reminiscent of architectural photography of Modernism; void of human figures, yet vibrant, they invite the viewer to invent a narrative. Ann-Kathrin Müller lives and works in Stuttgart.

True Lab

The class of Olaf Nicolai in the area of Sculpture and Three-Dimensional Design at the Academy of Visual Arts Munich:
Ilan Bachl, Valentino Betz, Nil Bräg, Alexander Deubl, Fabian Diem, Elke Dreier, Florian Ecker, Jan Erbelding, Veronika Galli, Lena Grossmann, Katharina Haebler, Eun-kyoung Jang, Janna Jirkova, Robert Keil, Shin-ae Kim, Se-Youn Kim, Franziska Konitzer, Jan Dominik Kudla, Yutie Lee, Markus Lutter, Jonas Münch, Anna Maria Pascó Boltá, Natalia Puric, Philipp Reitsam, Felix Leon Westner, Florian Westphal, Nuno-Miguel Wong

The poster session is an integral part of the procedure at scientific conferences: researchers present the current state of their studies, experiments, and models in a predetermined format. In this sense, the class of Olaf Nicolai at the Academy of Visual Arts Munich presents its own poster session at this artistic conference called an exhibition, in which the individual posters show excerpts, prospects, or inventories. An overall picture arises from the individual class members' involvement with their respective current artistic research, united by the format used in common.

Tomer Rosenthal, born in 1987, studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design Tel Aviv with Yehudit Sasportas. Tomer Rosenthal is concerned with the sensorially perceptible world of transient things. His drawings depict a movement between the physical sculptural essence of drawing to a suggestive ephemeral aspect of it. True Lab shows an installation of current works on paper. Tomer Rosenthal lives and works in Tel Aviv.

True Lab 2-

Robert Seidel
, born in 1983, studied under Neo Rauch at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. Robert Seidel’s canvases show objective-sober views of industry, landscape, and civilization. He expands these traditional subjects with pop-cultural objects or abstract compositions, whose mode of painting seems geometrically technical. This reinforces the sobriety of his compositions and at the same time underscores their richness of detail. Robert Seidel lives and works in Leipzig.

True Lab 4

Bertold Stallmach, born in 1984, studied at the Zurich University of the Arts and was a student with Nina Fischer & Maroan el Sani at Sapporo City University / Japan. Bertold Stallmach’s clay animation films are concerned with basic societal questions like success and failure, finding oneself and relationships, happiness and grief. True Lab is showing his animated film Der Rattenkönig (the rat king) and two sculptures that were also the shooting locations for the film. Der Rattenkönig investigates techniques of manipulation in a society that lives in fixed hierarchical patterns. Bertold Stallmach lives and works in Berlin and Zurich.

True Lab 3-

Katrin Steiger, born in 1982, studied at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar with Christine Hill. Her conceptual works are usually directly related to her own person and explore space as a stage. In the EIGEN + ART Lab, she is showing the installation piece Men At Work, a playful approach to the typecasting of gender roles; for this, the artist has modified 19 already worn men’s shirts into clothing for a woman. Each piece of clothing or accessory generates itself out of one or more shirts and is a tailor-made custom product that can be worn only by the artist herself. Katrin Steiger lives and works in Weimar.
