Karl-Heinz Adler

Text

Karl-Heinz Adler (born in 1927, deceased in 2018) is known as a major and independent representative of constructive-concrete art that deals with structures that are composed of repeating elements. Besides his artistic practice he had been pursuing an applied conception of "producing systems" in collaboration with Friedrich Kracht in the 1950s which he applied to architecture and environmental design. There are interfaces between his work and Richard Paul Lohses variable systems, Josef Albers' colour layers, François Morellets' serial linework, the spiritual-philosophic and social concerns of constructivist avantgarde and Bauhaus. In addition to his artistic works the current exhibition shows original sketches of the „Beton-Formsteine" (concrete-stones).
