Sustainability in art is becoming increasingly important – also for us.
Galerie EIGEN + ART has been a member of the GCC (Gallery Climate Coalition) since 2022 and has established an in-house green team, participated in several workshops and initiatives, developed goals for the gallery and created a climate report. In intensive exchange with international colleagues and institutions, we are part of a network with which sustainable structures can be established in the long term. In 2023, as one of 15 selected cultural institutions in Saxony (including the Grassimuseum Leipzig and the Staatsschauspiel Dresden among others) we prepared a climate assessment for our gallery in Leipzig as part of the GREEN CULTURE INDEX SACHSEN and are involved in determining a status quo on climate and culture, developing strategies for the future and diving deeper into the topic. For us, this marks an important beginning in the development of measures and the goal of CO2 reduction in our gallery. The topic of sustainability is also becoming increasingly important in cultural project planning. We focus on careful planning of our exhibitions as well as national and international events in order to minimize the need for air freight and travel activities. We are committed to working with others to develop more sustainable packaging, transport and energy saving solutions for the entire industry. We also see great potential in exchanging ideas with suppliers and service providers in order to develop joint measures to work together more sustainably in the future and reduce the CO2 footprint.
Galerie EIGEN + ART is continuously and actively working on improving skills and structures for our locations in Leipzig and Berlin, knowing that we still have a long way to go and a lot to learn. We look forward to receiving feedback and exchanging ideas with anyone interested on this topic.
